The latest Update

Dear Friends

We were told recently that the bungalow we are currently renting may soon be sold. We would like to buy it and are appealing for your help with this venture.

It is a large three bedroomed detached property with a big private garden in a quiet leafy area of Aberystwyth. It has served us well as a residential contemplative retreat house for over two years.

It is spacious and not directly over looked by other properties, which is an important factor when people need privacy. There is ample parking and easy access to the bus and railway stations.

In the eight years since The Place of Peace first opened it's doors to guests the training and commitment of those who come has deepened and this little Temple has put down strong roots. Most of those who come travel many miles to train here. They are all supporting this proposed purchase as they value what the property the has to offer.

During these eight years we have been in rented accommodation and have been steadily building up our funds with the intention of purchasing a detached property in this area. We would appreciate the long term stability and most efficient use of funds that comes from the trust owning a property.

There is also a spiritual need for a sense of enclosure that is not possible in a rented property where others have a key and right of entry.

I know that these are financially hard times and am very grateful for all the help that has flowed into this Temple over the years. Asking for more is never easy but sometimes it is necessary.

We all know how expensive property is and because of this I am holding out the Temple begging bowl and respectfully asking if anyone in our broader Sangha would like to help us with this venture.

UPDATE: 7th November 2008

As we were not able to purchase our present home a new rental property has been found. It is a four bedroomed bungalow, in a rural location, 9 miles north of Aberystwyth and we move on the 9th of October.

We will be CLOSED for all of October and will re-open on the 16th of November. For information about RETREATS please see the retreat page

NOTE:  CHANGE OF TELEPHONE NUMBER:
Our new telephone number is 01970 832026.

It is still our intention to continue looking for a property to purchase in the Aberystwyth area.

So far we have saved £55,000.

We can afford a mortage of £90,000. A charity has offered us £5,000 once a property has been purchased and we have been offered a long term loan of £60,000.

We expect to find a suitable property for around £240,000 to £250,000 so:

clearly stating on the cheque itself ( please underline on the cheque itself) that it is for "The Life of Faith" property purchase. Thank you.

If this property does not become available for sale, or if we are unable to raise sufficient funds for a downpayment, then loans will be returned and the donations, depending on the amount raised, will be used to either try and purchase a less expensive property in the Aberystwyth to Machynlleth area or to continue the work of the trust in this, or another rented property whilst we increase our savings.

Throughout the centuries Buddhist monks and Temples have been able to exist because of freely given offerings called "Dana". We have no other form of financial support and rely completely upon these donations. They support places of refuge and retreat where those who wish to reflect within and explore the meaning and purpose of their life may do so in a safe and sympathetic enviroment in the company of a senior monastic.

In the new Temple their will be a plaque of Gratitude acknowledging the generosity of those who made it possible. If you would like to offer the merit of your donation / loan to a loved one, person or animal, then their names will be alongside your own on the plaque.

Thank you to all who have given, and who continue to give, to this Temple.

in gassho, Rev. Master Myoho Harris and the trustees of The Life of Faith
